After shaking the foundations of Lisbon’s influential global club music scene at the young age of 16 with the undeniable anthem ‘African Scream’, Enchufada’s own afro-house prodigy Dotorado Pro is back with ‘Rei das Marimbas’, the follow-up EP to the viral club hit that has racked millions of plays on Youtube and Soundcloud, inspired countless dance videos and made sweaty crowds demand pull-ups from DJs all over the world.

‘Rei das Marimbas’ (Portuguese for King of Marimbas) is Dotorado Pro’s love letter to his favorite percussive instrument, where he steps up his production game by looping compelling and intense marimba melodic patterns over his instantly recognizable (and always dancefloor-focused) interpretation of afro-house beats. Dotorado Pro’s new tracks sound as vital and electrifying as always, as the young prodigy distills the essence of the style and makes it his own over five original tracks.

From the very first moments of the EP with Rei das Marimbas’ epic horns intro, to the relentless syncopation of Afro-Indian, the melody-heavy late-night party anthem Ewe, the entrancing marimba loops of Marimba Rija and the innovative take on kizomba and tarraxo rhythms of Mister Kalimba show us a rising young artist whose talent can’t be denied. Dotorado Pro’s exploration of the sounds that are shaking the dancefloors of his native Angola, coupled with a keen understanding of Europe’s electronic club music styles, make for a truly impressive EP where the young prodigy shows skills well beyond his age. If ‘African Scream’ was his introduction to the larger world, ‘Rei das Marimbas’ proves that the 18 year-old producer is definitely here to stay.
